Ministry of Clouds - '18 Grenache Carignan, McLaren Vale
Varietal: 86% Grenache, 14% Carignan
Winemaking: Hand-picked from bush vine Grenache planted in the 1930’s in white sand atop the ancient Onkaparinga Rocks, one of the highest altitude plantings of Grenache. Blended with Carignan from 100+ year old vineyard. Made using gentle, traditional wine making techniques. Whole bunch fermentation in traditional open vats to preserve freshness, but allow long maceration to build tannins and complexity. Gently basket pressed. Matured in old French Oak to provide maturation without oak flavours.
Nose: Sour cherry, strawberry, a splash dried herbs and amaro bitters.
Palate: The palate is long and intense. Fruit driven, layers of earthiness, depth of old vine fruit intensity and sandy tannins.
Our Notes: We recommend serving it coolish (but not too cold to preserve aromatics) alongside barbecued delights. This wine is perfect for warm sunny days.
Music Pairing: Tadow - Masego, FJK
